CHUNK is an iconic contemporary design object by Ward Wijnant, defined by its sculptural presence and expressive surface.
Ward Wijnant began his studies at the Wood and Furniture College, where he developed his furniture-making skills and gained extensive knowledge of materials. He later attended the Design Academy Eindhoven, graduating as an independent designer. In 2015, he established his own studio.
His work is defined by a strong focus on material experimentation. Through exploring a variety of methods and materials, Wijnant creates contemporary designs distinguished by careful attention to detail and craftsmanship. An element of surprise remains a central aspect of his creative approach.
Each piece is created by hand, using a high-pressure folding technique applied to aluminium foil. This process gives every CHUNK its own unique weight, structure and tactile quality. The characteristic texture and lustre are the direct result of this handcrafted method, creating a striking, almost jewel-like finish with an intentionally extravagant feel.
Designed and manufactured in the Netherlands, CHUNK is produced as an open edition and made to order, ensuring every object remains individual while staying true to the original design intent.
